Foyle Film Festival’s Light In Motion (LIM) competition is Northern Ireland's only Oscar® and BAFTA accredited short film competition, showcasing a diverse programme of homegrown and international short films.

The prestigious Light In Motion (LIM) competition, sponsored by City of Derry Crystal, is open to filmmakers and animators across the world.
The five competition categories under Light In Motion are:

Best Irish Short
- Best International Short
- Best Animated Short
- Best British Short
- Best British Animated Short
Academy Award®qualifying in:
- Best Irish Short Film
- Best International Short Film
- Best Animated Short Film
Films that win qualified award(s) at Foyle Film Festival 2024 may be qualified to enter the 98th Academy Awards®, provided that the films meet all the requirements set forth in the official rules for that season.
BAFTAqualifying in:
- Best British Short Film
- Best British Animated Short Film
Shorts that screen at two festivals from the BAFTA’s Qualifying Festivals List — Short FIlm may be eligible to enter the British Short Film category, and animated shorts that screen at least one of the festivals from BAFTA's Qualifying Festivals — Animated Short Film may be eligible to enter the British Animated Short category.
BEFOREENTERING
Competitors are required to read through the festival Rules and Regulations in full before submission.
By submitting to Foyle Film Festival it is mutually understood that competitors are bound to abide by the rules and regulations of the festival and that they have pre-cleared all materials that comprise the film, as an authorised holder of the intellectual property of the work.
