Northern Ireland Screen is hosting a production workshop at Foyle Film Festival.

Sean Mullan and Michael Barwise will be discussing their work to date as part of the workshop as well as discussing how they collaborate together throughout the production process. The workshop is part of the Networkshops programme for new and emerging talent.

Followed by a networking drinks reception in the Nerve Centre bar.

Meet Michael Barwise

Michael Barwise is filmmaker and documentary editor from Derry, Northern Ireland. His work includes films for Channel 4, Netflix UK, Red Bull and Northern Ireland Screen. His films have screened at Oscar-qualifying Galway Film Fleadh and Foyle Film Festival, BAFTA-qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival and IndieCork, and have been broadcast on BBC and Film4.

Michael is currently developing the feature documentary Hy Brasil alongside co-director Seán Mullan. Hy Brasil was selected for the first year of IGNITE, a documentary talent development scheme run by Cork International Film Festival and Docs Ireland.

Meet Seán Mullan

Seán Mullan is an IFTA nominated Irish filmmaker with award winning work exhibited in over 25 major festivals internationally. Mullan’s 2020 IFTA nominated short documentary Inhale was awarded Best Short Documentary at the 2018 Galway Film Fleadh and long listed at the 2019 BAFTAs. Mullan’s scripted short film’s include Can’t Cry, funded by NI Screen and Hormigas Y Amigas, a short drama produced by the acclaimed German filmmaker, Werner Herzog.

Mullan’s documentary commissions include Hyfin, a Netflix production and Rise Up, a Red Bull Media House production. His latest short doc Gerry won an honourable mention at Docs Ireland 2024. His debut co-directed documentary feature project Hy Brasil with Michael Barwise, is currently in development with Northern Ireland Screen.
