THE FLORIDA PROJECT

Friday 30 Mar 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:45pm
Admission:

The story of a deprived group of children – led by a precocious and fearless six year old girl called Moonee.

The story is set in a run down motel in Florida, just off the grimly named Seven Dwarfs Lane in the shadow of Walt Disney World – one of many long-stay welfare places for transients and mortgage defaulters. These impoverished places are not at all part of the magic kingdom, but to Moonee and her friends it is their magical playground as they run around completely unsupervised. Moonee’s mother Halley is alone and struggles to take care of herself and her young daughter.

The child performances are reminiscent of classic British films such as Kes and Whistle Down The Wind.

Nominated for an Oscar®.

“Its potent combination of empathy, observation and miraculously natural performances make this a modern classic, with strong echoes of Ken Loach's very best work. Think of it as a Cathy Come Home for Donald Trump's America.”
