Special 70th Anniversary Screening
One of the most iconic classic Hollywood musicals featuring the iconic duo of Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse, The Band Wagon appears as timeless 70 years on, as on it’s release. Following the story of a famous musical film star (Astaire) who fears his career might be on a declining period but whose friends Lester (Oscar Levant) and Lily (Nanette Fabray) have written a broadway musical with the aim of arresting this slide in his career.
Following on from the involvement of egotistical director Jeffrey Cordova (Jack Buchanan) and the subsequent casting of ballerina Gaby Gerard (Cyd Charisse), there may be more in store than originally anticipated.
Nominated for 3 Oscars®.
“The Band Wagon was[…]more like one of Shakespeare's comedies, pushed up to date and set to music and dance. But the more you look at it, the more perfect it seems.” - Derek Malcolm, The Guardian.
