James Gray’s deeply felt and intense 1980s New York-based drama.

Two brothers, family man and engineer Irwin (Miles Teller) and ex-police officer Gary (Oscar® nominee Adam Driver) become entangled in a scheme that turns out to be too good to be true. As they try to navigate their way through the dangerous world of the Russian mafia, family bonds begin to fray with life-altering consequences.

With its meticulous period detail, precise camerawork and timeless visual style, writer-director Gray’s ninth feature channels classic crime films of the 1970s by way of Greek tragedy, in turn showcasing career-best performances from Teller, Driver and Scarlett Johansson as Irwin’s wife Hester. Equal parts tense, atmospheric thriller and operatic family tragedy, Paper Tiger is a new American classic.
