Professor Ian Christie first came to Foyle Film Festival in November 1995 to deliver a lecture exploring the formative influence of the films of Powell and Pressburger on the cinematic imagination of Martin Scorsese.

Almost three decades later, Ian Christie presents an online and updated version of the lecture in which he examines the umbilical relationship between The Red Shoes and Raging Bull.

Ian Christie is a scholar, film historian, curator, and broadcaster who has written several books including studies of the works of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, Martin Scorsese and the development of cinema, as well as a Professor of Film and Media History at Birkbeck College, University of London, since 1999.
