Foyle Film Festival is proud to be an Academy Award® and BAFTA qualifying festival through our Light in Motion short film competition.

Academy Award® qualifying in:

  • Best Irish Short Film
  • Best International Short Film
  • Best Animated Short Film

Films that win qualified award(s) at Foyle Film Festival 2024 may be qualified to enter the 98th Academy Awards®, provided that the films meet all the requirements set forth in the official rules for that season.

BAFTA qualifying in:

  • Best British Short Film
  • Best British Animated Short Film

Shorts that screen at two festivals from the BAFTA’s Qualifying Festivals List — Short FIlm may be eligible to enter the British Short Film category, and animated shorts that screen at least one of the festivals from BAFTA's Qualifying Festivals — Animated Short Film may be eligible to enter the British Animated Short category.

Winners of the Light in Motion Awards will be announced at the Closing Night ceremony in Brunswick Moviebowl on Sunday 1 December 2024.
