JosephineJosephine

Inspired by writer-director Beth de Araújo’s own childhood memory, Josephine is a tense, devastating and compassionate drama about how we confront the unspeakable.

After 8-year-old Josephine (Mason Reeves) accidentally witnesses a crime in Golden Gate Park, she acts out in search of a way to regain control of her safety while adults are helpless to console her.

Winner of the Audience and Dramatic Grand Jury prizes at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, de Araújo’s accomplished second feature showcases her striking visual style, complemented by Greta Zozula’s precise cinematography. Newcomer Reeves delivers a performance which is both heartbreaking and tender, alongside career-best work from Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan as her parents.
