Maze & After 68
Stephen Burke’s 1994 short film is the story of Frieda, a young girl growing up in strife-torn Derry in the late sixties, and her struggles to live a normal adolescence despite the violence that is engulfing her city.
Inspired by the true story of the infamous prison breakout of 38 IRA prisoners from the Maze prison in 1983, which has become the biggest prison escape in Europe since the Second World War.
'What Maze does impressively is blend historical context with genre filmmaking, managing to feel both important and exciting.' Stephen Porzio, Film Ireland
'Forget unionism and nationalism, what we have here is a masterfully crafted story of two men - who in another life, might have spent long hours fishing in each other’s company .' Shauna Corr, Belfast Live
