You Were Never Really Here
Lynne Ramsay’s latest film is an unconventional thriller that avoids clichés at every turn, and keeps the dialogue to a minimum. Action sequences are brief and infrequent. The main character Joe (Joaquin Phoenix) is a suicidal killer who bludgeons people with a hammer. Joe is hired to rescue a teenage girl (Ekaterina Samsonov) from an upmarket brothel and, as you might imagine, this leads to violence and bloodshed.
Winner of Best Actor and Best Screenplay Awards at Cannes 2017.
“Lynne Ramsay’s (latest movie) is a work of art just as poetic, experimental, brutal and visceral to a 21st century audience as Taxi Driver was to the 70s.” ~ Orestes Adam, The Hollywood News
