THE BIG SICK
Kumail is a Pakistani who meets an American graduate student named Emily at one of his stand-up shows. As their relationship grows, he becomes worried what his traditional Muslim parents will think
Based on the real-life courtship between Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, The Big Sick tells the story of Pakistan-born budding comedian Kumail (Nanjiani), who meets student Emily (Kazan) after one of his stand-up shows.
However, what started as a one-night stand blossoms into the real thing. When a sudden illness results in Emily being put into a medically-induced coma, Kumail is forced to balance his career, dealing with a tragic illness, and his traditional Muslim parents’ determination to fix him up with a “suitable” wife.
Nominated for an Oscar®.

“In Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V Gordon’s semi-autobiographical film, a mixed-race relationship is the springboard for humour, poignancy and a welcome message of tolerance…”
