CLOSING NIGHT GALA PREMIERE: SAVING MR. BANKS
Saving Mr Banks tells the previously untold story about Walt Disney’s (Tom Hanks) tireless attempts to keep a promise to his daughters by bringing their beloved Mary Poppins book to the big screen. He is met with a roadblock by the book’s author, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), who is uncompromising in letting her book be filmed and refuses to budge on selling the rights for 20 years. After her money runs short, however, Travers reluctantly agrees to meet Mr. Disney in Los Angeles to discuss the books rights with Mr. Disney. After he pulls all the stops in trying to get Travers to budge on the deal, Mr. Disney discovers just how much this book means to its author and how the ghosts of her past are preventing her from budging on the rights issue.
A rather unique untold story behind one of Disney’s most beloved films, Saving Mr Banks is looking to be a delightful and heartwarming look into the life of not only Mr. Disney himself but the oft-overlooked author of the classic tale. Tom Hanks was born to play this role, full or warmth and vitality and always a man with a song in his heart. Equally as impressive is Emma Thompson, who’s confident tight-lipped attitude and subtle vulnerability make her the perfect casting for the fascinating P.L. Travers as we explore this woman and what made her change her mind to make her book be brought to life on the big screen.
NB: Light In Motion Award Winners also announced on the night.
